5 Easy Tips To Help You Save Money

You know how it is, there’s never enough money left in the days or weeks before your next pay check arrives.

Especially in these times of rising gas prices, food that goes up every week and general mayhem in the economy.

But are there ways to save money?

And still live a normal, healthy life.

Here are a few tips to help you save money:

1. Cut down on your credit cards

The standard advice is to stop using credit cards altogether. But let’s get real here, cutting down on using credit cards will likely be OK. Over time, you should aim to cut your credit card debt, if possible to zero. Find out the highest rate you’re paying and start with that card. And if you’re offered the chance to swap some of your balance to a 0% card to assist you in doing this, take up the offer while you can.

2. Trade down

Most grocery stores have a range of their own products that are often all but indistinguishable from the brand leaders except for the label. Give them a try next time you shop. Don’t rule out the really low cost “value” lines either - some of them are pretty close to the regular lines. Others (such as rubbery burgers) are not, so be careful the first time you buy these in case they’re a waste of cash.

3. Don’t shop as often

Bulk buy the things you know you’ll use on a regular basis. Boring stuff like toilet rolls, canned foods, etc. If you must go to a grocery store, be sure you’ve eaten first. It sounds daft, but you won’t make as many impulse buys this way.

4. Stop impulse buying

Eek. These are getting harder to do! If you’re prone to impulse buying, leave your credit cards at home and make sure anyone you shop with is told in no uncertain terms that they can’t “sub” you “until you get home”. If that seems like a complete impossibility, take a break from shopping completely - even if you break out into a cold sweat at the thought, but quit shopping for a while, no matter.

5. Get help

Chat with friends or colleagues - they have likely spotted a pattern developing where you just buy things, almost without thought. Maybe you shop to give yourself a lift. No matter what the reason, discover what it is and work to reduce it.
